The Blizzard of 2014

We got a lot of snow.  Like, a lot.  More than I have ever seen in my life.  I'm kind of crazy about snow, but can you blame me?  It's just so BEAUTIFUL when it falls.  It makes me think of how big our Creator is and how small we are.  I need that reminder.

Snow Day 1: Wednesday, February 12th
It began snowing shortly after lunch.  Jimmy was at work and once the snow started getting bad, he was able to finish up and leave.  I received a phone call from him, "I'm in the parking garage and it's going to be awhile...there is a line and Hawthorne road is at a stand still".  UGH.  Fortunately, we have a Suburu, so he was able to maneuver around people and get home in about 30 minutes (normally takes 10).  Grace woke up from her nap to see this:

It poured alllllll afternoon and night

This was the first time since last year that Jimmy was able to play with Grace in the snow.  We are thankful for that!

Snow Day 2: Thursday, February 13th
The next morning there was a big blanket of white snow outside; including a sheet of ice on top.  Driving conditions weren't ideal, but Jimmy was on a call and had to go to work.  Cue our awesome vehicle: Oswald the Outback.  Have I mentioned we are glad we bought that thing?

I took this picture around 8:00 a.m.

Nice snow drift out front

Whose tire tracks are those?  Jimmy's...sad.  Even though we really wish he could have stayed home for awesome sledding, we were thankful he made it work safely.

Wesley's like, "What's going on?"

It started to snow AGAIN...several more inches this day.

Wesley was down for one of his naps so Grace and I bundled up.  I started making a snow family but after making the bottom part of ONE, I was sweating.  I figured I could be out there all day making a snow family, so I improvised.  I made them all lying down in the snow...

A close up of Jimmy with a crooked carrot for the nose...sorry honey, I thought it was funny :)  Jimmy jokes about his crooked nose so that's why I can make fun of him publicly :)

Food coloring + water + water bottle = colored snow paint

Our snow drift slide

Crock pot dark chocolate fudge (it looks gross but it was tasty!)

Snow paint (thank you Pinterest!)

Grace enjoyed it

Snow day crafts

Inside snow a.k.a cotton balls (this surprisingly held her attention for awhile)

Back out in the snow with Aunt Lulu and Uncle David.  We LOVE our neighbors!  We had some fun game nights with them while being snowed in.

Rice Krispy snow man.  It's a funny color because I only had flavored marshmallows.

Cup castles: more snow day entertainment.  Let's just say you get creative after being cooped up for several days!

Snow Day 3: Friday, February 14th
We still didn't venture out anywhere on day three since our roads were covered and I drive a Nissan Sentra.  Jimmy was post-call so he slept during the morning.  Once he woke up, he tried to go sledding but the sun had different plans.  Another thing working against Jimmy that day was he had ordered some Valentine's gifts for me that were supposed to be delivered but due to the weather they didn't come until the next day.  I didn't mind!

We enjoyed our North Carolina blizzard and can't wait until the next snow!
