This was a few hours after the snow began. The morning after this, the top layer of the snow was frozen solid, which made for great sledding conditions.
Speaking of sledding...here is a video of Grace, Wesley, and I sledding down a hill in our neighborhood. On our way to this hill, we passed someone shoveling snow and drinking a beer...at 8:00 a.m. I couldn't stop chuckling!
Wesley was little when it snowed last year...like put him in a snowsuit and wheel him around in a wagon, little. This year he was sort of able to navigate walking around in the snow.
The morning after the snow "storm" hit. We definitely saw worse last year.
Poor little brother in sissy's pink hat and gloves. He didn't seem to mind :)
We have had this red sled for several years. It is cracked, but we've been able to doctor it up with some duct tape. I was trying to think of the best way to transport my littles to the other side of the neighborhood so we could sled and it dawned on me....rope! I put the rope on and was able to pull them around in this sled (while carrying our new sled from Costco). They enjoyed the ride and it was a much better solution than carrying sir chunky.
Wesley was perfectly content sitting in the snow and eating it. Shocker!
Grace wanted to help pull Wesley around some...poor guy fell over and couldn't get up!
Coen, one of our neighbors whom is 6, came out to sled with Grace. They LOVE playing together. He is the sweetest little soul with Grace...so patient and kind.
Meanwhile Wesley and Ellie had a better idea inside. Hanging by the fire!
Every time it has snowed in the past 4 years, Jimmy has always had to be at work. I don't think he has ever been able to stay home and sled with us. Fortunately for us, we have an awesome Uncle David and Aunt Lulu next door. Uncle David always takes Grace sledding on days like these. They were racing down the driveway over and over and over.
Jimmy got home around dinner time, just in time to have a family meal with the Cloers and put the kids to bed. After some homemade chicken pot pie we played Settlers of Catan. Playing board games at night has been a snow time tradition for us because we can hang out as late as we want and then home is just a few steps away for the Cloers. Now melt away ice...these kids need to get back in SCHOOL!
