Jimmy was accepted to present at the ASA conference in San Diego, CA this year (same conference we went to last year in NOLA). Needless to say I HAD to go with him! I had never been to the west coast and we were SO SO excited about this trip. We were fortunate to travel with the Kittners and hang out with them the majority of our time in Cali. It was the trip of a life time...I'm not even exaggerating!! Thank you SO much to my mom and dad for watching the kids so we could have some time away as a couple. Thanks aunt Cindy for helping mom out at the zoo with our little monkeys.
The day before we left for our trip, I scooted out of work a little early to take these two cuties out for Mexican food.
We left around 1:00 on a Friday and the kids were asleep right away. Sweet faces.
Flying in to San Diego late at night for us...so beautiful!
The Hard Rock Hotel was amazing!
One of the first things Jimmy said to me when we arrived in our room was, "DON'T touch the chocolate tray! We have to pay for that!" hahaha...he knows me too well.
I tried to take pictures of all the places we went to eat...for memory's sake. Mary Jane's was okay; we mainly ate there because it was in our hotel lobby. They had a bloody mary bar and mimosa bar set up...yummo!
I didn't even realize we were staying in the middle of the Gaslamp quarter! We basically walked everywhere.

View from the conference center deck
Bubs was delicious! We ate here twice.
Sarah presenting her medically challenging case
Jimmy presenting 1 of his 2 medically challenging cases.
Sarah, Christine and I went out on an adventure while the boys were doing conference stuff. Petco park (Padres baseball stadium) was right behind our hotel. Beautiful!
Horton Plaza; we stumbled across this by accident but HELLO...it was SO cute and fun.
Sarah returned to the conference and Christine and I decided we needed a sweet treat. Look at those gelattos!
Christine and I took a shortcut through the Marriot's pool...WOW. We just sat down for half an hour and giggled. It was so beautiful and relaxing.
Out and about in the Seaport Villages. I wish I would have taken a picture of Ashley with us!! Ashley, her husband Nate (in Jimmy's resident class), and their little boy Oliver came to Cali as well. The girls and Oliver walked around the Seaport Villages...such an adorable little area.
We got to get cupcakes from a place that WON cupcake wars one season on the Food Network. Y'all know how I feel about cupcakes and bakeries.
Headed to the Wake Forest Alumni reception.
Or maybe we were headed back...;)
Mike arrived and we went back to Bubs for a late dinner. Sarah and I enjoyed some Connect Four. I may or may not have beat TWO doctors in this game...hehe. Sorry not sorry Jimmy...
After dinner we heard some music playing and what do you know, we started a dance party!! Seriously. It was so fun!!! You see Sarah in the left side of the picture??
Our hotel's rooftop pool
Lounge area where we spent probably half of one day just hanging out. Ahhh.
The rooftop sitting area and bar by the pool. This stuff actually exists y'all!
We stayed in the Hard Rock hotel so naturally, there was a lot of music history and paraphernalia around.
My little bro lives in Los Angeles, CA and he was able to drive down and meet us for a day. We went paddle boarding and THAT was so fun. We saw a jelly fish and a sea lion while out in the harbor. Jimmy and Jordan totally wiped out...I was pushed in. And that's the truth!! It was such a fun experience.
My second cousins picked Jimmy, Jordan and I up from the hotel to drive around San Diego. Here's another view of the Horton Plaza.
Inside the plaza at night
We ate dinner at the House of Blues with my second cousins. It was so good to see them!
Jordie took Jimmy and I to a concert at the House of Blues after dinner. This picture is of the opening act. The band that was featured was MS MR. It was a really cool experience, but I'm too old for all that bass and volume! haha :)
We were able to enjoy another rooftop pool at the Omni hotel. Look at that!
Fish tacos and a Mai Thai...delish.
Happy hour is happier when your drinks are pretty!
And when shrimp looks like this!
Part of San Diego at night
Memorial by the USS Midway aircraft carrier
Wish I had a better picture of this beast...it's a Navy aircraft carrier that is a museum now.
This is where this famous picture actually happened! So cool! Jimmy and I above.
The Kittners
Another monument/memorial area
We happened to walk by Kansas City Barbeque where part of Top Gun was filmed.
The Yard House where they have the largest selection of draft beers IN THE WORLD. Yeah, we couldn't just walk by here without going inside...
This is just ONE side of the bar.
The Fantastic Four ;)
This lady was on her way to a Marilyn Manson show at the House of Blues. Sarah was the brave one to ask for a picture.
You know you have a two year old boy when you can't resist taking a picture of a working machine in action.
Hodad's burgers. The BEST burger I've had in my life...all four of us agreed.
We were looking for dancing, but instead found a large sized Jenga. YES!
Rickshaw our tired selves back to the hotel after over 22,000 steps!!
Look at our breakfast...yeah.
I had the tiki toast. It was delightful.
Ferry ride to Coronado Island.
We brought our bicycles with us...the boys took off towards a brewery and we took off towards a boutique, naturally!
Pacific ocean, baby!
We heard all week that the sunset at Coronado Island was breathtaking. That is was.
Famous hotel
Ferry ride back for another night of fun.
Leaving San Diego to head back to NC.
Don't let these pictures fool you about the kids missing us...my mom met us in Charlotte to pick the kids up and they were like, "BYE!". Mom tooks lots of pictures while we were gone...here's some proof:
"Ice ceam!!!!" says Wesley...everytime he's at Memere's house. I wonder why...
My mom pulled some of my brother's old toys down from the attic and cleaned them up for Wesley. Yep, that's all he needed!
This dollhouse is quite special to me. My nana was in a miniatures club where they built different models. She made this dollhouse for me when I was about 6 or 7, I think. Mom let Grace explore and play with it. She's not quite ready to call it her own, but she enjoyed it.
Pepere!
At the park
Memere's famous butter cookies
Riverbanks Zoo
Grace got to do the climbing wall.
This might be one of my favorite pictures of the kids...EVER! Adorable.
