Jimmy and I have not seen each other much this month, so Valentine's Day came late this year for us :) I got home Monday after work to find Jimmy home as well (he got off early). He handed me a journal and my first thought was, "I already have journals to write in..." He told me to open the journal, and inside it said:
This Journal Belongs to: Grace Elaine Turner
From: Mom and Dad
I SCREAMED out of excitement and surprise! Jimmy said to open the next page and read. What I read was a letter to our future daughter, Grace (YAY), from Jimmy. The letter was a story explaining how Jimmy and I chose her name. Grace comes from Gracien, which is my maiden name. Grace also is a name that has been carried on for generations in Jimmy's family, and we did not know this at first! Grace was his grandmother's (dad's mom) middle name.
Elaine comes from my grandmother (dad's mom) whom I never got to meet because she passed away the year my parents got married. Elaine meant so much to my father. I was the first girl in over 100 years on my dad's side of the family (crazy right?), so I wanted our little girl to have a piece of my dad's family in her name.
Jimmy said the journal is a gift and what he wants us to do is to write letters to Grace about how we met, our lives, and stories of her growing up. When she graduates from high school we will give her the journal and hope that she appreciates it as much as I already do. I love this husband of mine :)
It's no secret that Jimmy was in love with the name Abigail which means "my father's joy". He explains in the letter that even though he loved the meaning of that name, that Grace just seemed to fit our daughter, even though we haven't met her yet.
A lot of people have Grace as a middle name, or use it as a hyphenated name, but I don't know many people with Grace as their first name. Grace means "unmerited favor" and how fitting is that? We couldn't be more excited as we await the arrival for Grace Elaine Turner!!! It feels sooo good to call her by name :)
Winnie the Pooh: Think... think... think...
Gopher: Say, what's wrong, sonny? Got yourself a headache?
Winnie the Pooh: No, I was just thinking.
Gopher: That so? What about?
Winnie the Pooh: I... Oh, bother! You made me forget.
