Toddlerhood: June-July

Well this month was super busy!  We went on a vacation (see vacation post) and then Jimmy started his second year of residency and is currently doing all anesthesia!  More about that below.

Cherishing time with "daggy" as she calls him.

Grace started "nastics" this month and LOVES it.  Mommy does not love her behavior there as Grace is quite a pill during circle time (the time before they get released to explore).  It's good practice for preschool, though!

*hugs* in the foam pit!  Ellory is her buddy and just so happens to be in her class.

Grace and Brookie!  They are best buds and spend most of their time together in the summers right here: in the pool!  Brookie is teaching Grace how to go under the water like a big girl!

Grace loves Hailee and Hannah

Grace's favorite thing to do at the mall

Grace's second favorite thing to do at the mall :)  Usually she stands on the step like a big girl but she hadn't seen her daddy all day.

Katie, Beth, myself and Liz were all best friends in college.  5 years later, one baby and two on the way, we still make things work!  We met in Charlotte for the afternoon and Liz and I were showered with baby gifts :)

While I was in Charlotte, Grace was with Aunt Cindy, Uncle Linton and Memere for the day (three team army!).

Dress like a cow day at Chick-Fil-A!  I taped brown spots on her shirt and put cow ears on her headband.  She got a free entree...you have to be dressed head to toe in a cow outfit to get a free meal.  I tried to convince the cashier that since I'm pregnant I LOOK like a cow...she disagreed (which was nice of her) and said I couldn't have a free meal.  I tried :)

Lots of kids were terrified of the cow...not my little lady.  She is some kind of fearless.  "Hey cow, whatcha doin?  Hug?" was her response.

We started potty training on July 3rd.  She pooped in the potty on day 1 so that was good.

We did lots of activities around the house to keep occupied since we weren't going anywhere until she was potty trained.  This is how she likes to glue :)

Happy 4th of July!  On day 2 she peed on the potty.  Progress is good!

Grace and Harper at the 4th of July Kernersville parade

Homemade slime footprints :)

"Helping" to make cupcakes

By day 4 of potty training Grace started refusing to drink and would hold her pee/poop until she got off the potty and thus go on the floor somewhere.  She started getting very upset about sitting on the potty (despite prizes and book reading) and soon I realized I was forcing it.  We are taking a break and will try again in a month or so!

Baby Gray isn't a baby anymore!

I asked Grace who her best friend was the other day and she said, "Daggy bes friens" (translated: Daddy best friends).  Can you tell?

Made this out of decorative tape and a dry erase marker.  I am prepping her for preschool so we are practicing "circle time" where she has to sit and listen.  We talk about the day ahead of us during circle time and sing songs, too.  I also am teaching her the months of the year (she knows the days of the week most of the time, haha) and pointing and counting in order.  All of these are easily integrated into our calendar time!  Try it with your little learner!

Sneak peek of Wesley's nursery :)  Jimmy painted the room light gray.  We'll be posting before and after pics soon!

Residency Update: We are happy to say Jimmy is in his second year (CA-1 or Clinical Anesthesia year 1) of residency!  Only two more to go after this year.  Jimmy was anxious to begin this year as I'm sure most residents are because he will be doing only anesthesia from here on out.  We are excited about that because that's what he signed up for...not intern year randomness :)  Anyways, he works long days and then gets home and has to do reading and pre-ops.  Pre-ops are preparing for the operating room the next day.  He has to get there early and set up the room with the correct meds so he has to call the attending the night before to make sure the plan of action is correct.  The good thing right now is he has some weekends off so we are incredibly thankful for that.  He is on call twice a month at this point and those are long days because it's a 24 hour call which means he is at the hospital for 24 hours straight.  Hopefully he'll get some sleep some of those days but that's why some of his "days off" are really catch up on sleep days.
